1st Annual 10-Mile Buccaneer-to-Buck & Back

October 24th 2002

Welcome to the 2002 editions of the St. Croix Coral Reef Swims.  We look forward to those friends who will return to share the excitement and to those who will make this year’s event their first.  Once again, all the activities will take place around the beautiful Buccaneer Resort, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, and Buck Island, a US National Monument named as “one of the world's top ten beaches.” (National Geographic)

Host Hotel:      The Buccaneer  (800) 255-3881

When making reservations, please mention that you are coming for the Coral Reef Swim.

Course: The 5-Mile swim begins with a boat ride to Buck Island.  You will then swim from the shores of Buck Island, through 2 miles of crystal clear water before reaching the coastline of St. Croix.  The swim continues along the shore, through colorful reefs and sandy bottoms, and finishes at the main beach of St. Croix’s premiere destination resort, The Buccaneer.  The 10-mile swim begins at The Buccaneer's Mermaid Beach, crosses to Buck Island and then back again.

Water temperature is expected to be between 78 and 81 degrees F.  Wetsuits are not allowed.  Bring lots of sunscreen!

Entry Fee:        $90.00 per swimmer, which includes; Welcome Dinner, Award’s Barbecue (5-mile event only), tee shirt and swim cap.

The entry fee for on-island (St. Croix Residents) in the 5-Mile JR Division is $45.00; dinner not included.  Taxi fee of $4.00 will be collected at registration/check in.

*Important*

You may swim BOTH the 5-Mile and 10-Mile events, each requiring a separate entry fee. However, please note that we will only allow 25-30 swimmers in the 10-mile swim. Approximately 200 entries will be accepted for the 5-Mile swim.  Because of these entry limits, those wishing to swim the 10-mile swim should mail a separate check for that event.  Those entries arriving after the limit is reached will not be accepted.  No entries will be accepted after September 30th 2002.  Please read all of the following information carefully before you enter.
