Eligibility: The 5k, Clinic, and 1
Mile are open to all USMS registered swimmers, 19 years of age and older as of
April 28th 2001. A copy of USMS (or similar foreign) registration
card must be included with entry. USA registered swimmers are eligible for the
1 mile swim on Sunday April 29th 2001.
Location: Hollywood Beach,
Florida. All events will start and finish at the Johnson Street Bandshell on
the beach. A parking garage and metered parking are located near the bandshell.
The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is located about 15 minutes
north.
Hotel/Travel Information: The
Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce 800-231-5562 will assist with travel
arraignments including special discounted rates for hotels, car rentals, and
airline tickets, as well as maps and local attraction information. When
contacting them mention you are coming for the Hollywood Swim events.
Safety: All swimmers must wear the
bathing caps provided. Expected water temperature is 78-82. No wet suits.
Lifeguards will monitor the course.
Rules: 2001 USMS Long Distance
Rules will apply for Masters swimmers. All swimmers must be registered AND
include a copy of their 2001 registration card with entry. 2001 USA Swimming
rules will apply to the USA registered swimmers in the 1 mile swim.

The
course will be down and back with a beach start and finish. Medals will be
awarded immediately after the event to the top 10 places in each age group. In
addition Championship patches will be awarded to the 1st place finisher in each
age group. Age groups are 19-24, 25-29,30-34, and so on in five year increments
as high as necessary for both men and women. The entry fee includes an event
t-shirt, swim cap, and results. Race day and late entrants will not receive a
t-shirt. Note: t-shirts must be ordered allowing time for printing,
therefore entries arriving after the
order has been submitted will get the default size t-shirt.

Clinic
Starts: 3:00 pm ( ending at approx.
5:00pm)
Marcia
Cleveland, Champion Open Water Marathon Swimmer, and author of “Dover Solo” and
Randy Nutt, Event Director and Promoter, will conduct this clinic. All aspects
of open water swimming from training to competing will be discussed. The first
hour will consist of in the ocean instruction and drills, followed by a
discussion. It is not necessary that you enter the 5k National Championships to
enter the clinic. Entry fee includes instruction, handouts, and a swimcap. Late
and event day entries will only be accepted if space permits. Your clinic entry
must include a copy of your 2001 USMS registration card.
The Victor Hollywood Mile
Sunday
April 29th 2001
Check
in, pre race instructions, and the race start times are the same as the 5k
event above. Open to all USMS and USA Swimming registered swimmers. Awards to
the top three in each age group. USA Swimmers age groups will be 11-12, 13-14,
15-18. USMS age groups as outlined for the 5k.The course will be down and back
along the coast with a beach start and finish
Entry fee includes swim cap.
